SANKOFA: COLORED PEOPLE'S TIME

:::THIS IS A PAST EVENT. PLEASE CHECK EVENT DATE:::

The Gallo Center and Sankofa Theatre Company, which have previously teamed for "Fences," "The Piano Lesson" and "Looking Over the President's Shoulder," will celebrate Black History Month with this presentation of Leslie Lee's absorbing full-length play. Through a series of vignettes, Lee explores the history of Black Americans, from a group of slaves meeting in secret to discuss the Bible just before the Civil War, to a couple debating the Back-To-Africa movement during the Harlem Renaissance, to another couple resting their feet after marching in Montgomery.  "The hero [in the play] is not a character, but the black spirit for survival - its guts, humor and tenaciousness. " - The New York Times
