ALEJANDRO SABRE: MY GRANDFATHER’S MUSIC: MEXICAN PIANO PIECES FROM THE GOLDEN ERA OF SONG.

In this multi-media recital, the pianist and Modesto Junior College professor plays and discusses the music of his late grandfather, famous Mexican composer José Sabre Marroquín. An established songwriter during the 30’s and 40’s, when radio broadcasting and film were blossoming, Marroquín wrote several hit songs made famous by iconic Mexican singers Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete. For the first time, music such as Marroquín’s, praised for luscious melodies stylistically similar to Gershwin and the American songbook, was heard by mass audiences.
