Regional Mexican singer Alicia Villarreal, former lead singer of the top-selling Grupo Límite, launched a solo career in 2001 and became a star with her fusion of norteno and Latin pop. However, her 2009 album “La Jefa” featured much more traditional Mexican fare with bouncy rancheras and hopeful ballads. Fans loved it, and the recording debuted at number one on Billboard's Regional Mexican Albums and overall at number four on its Latin Albums chart. But that same year, Villarreal’s brother was killed in a car accident, and she largely retreated from the music world. Earlier this year Villarreal began to re-emerge, and released the ranchera single "Haz Lo Que Quieras,” whose video racked up two million views in its first month, and followed it with "Te Aprovechas," a cumbia-cum-mariachi duet with the pop duo Ha*Ash. These hits are part of her first new studio album in eight years, “La Villarreal.”
