Three distinct stories intertwine to poignantly illustrate history’s contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and love and hate. It was a tumultuous time when immigrants were looking to find hope in America, when former slaves and their children, now freed, were trying to establish their hold on the American dream, and the white upper-middle-class society struggled to maintain their lifestyle and expectations. MPA's 42nd Street recreates the classic 1933 backstage movie musical of the same name. Once again the simple-minded saga relates the tale of stage-struck chorus girl, Peggy Sawyer from Allentown, Pennsylvannia, who get her big chance when the older veteran star breaks her leg during the show’s tryout. Musical hits include You’re Getting To Be A Habit With Me, Dames, We’re In the Money, Lullaby of  Broadway, Shuffle Off To Buffalo, andthe title song, 42nd Street. Spectacular scenery, gorgeous costumes, and more high energy tap dancing than you can shake a leg at!

Born in Stockton, and a graduate of the University of the Pacific, singer, songwriter, musician and occasional actor Chris Isaak listened to records by Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison growing up. Other inspirations included rockabilly and country singers, including Hank Williams. He got his big break when director David Lynch used Isaak’s song “Wicked Game” in the soundtrack for the movie Wild at Heart. The song became a Top 10 hit, and the subsequent video for the song helped make him a major star. Another hit for Isaak was "Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing.” He was chosen by People magazine as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the world in 1990.
