In a dystopian future where a severe water shortage has outlawed private toilets, citizens must pay to use government-controlled public amenities run by a corrupt corporation. A rebellion spearheaded by young idealist Bobby Strong leads to chaos, romance, and unexpected twists. With its clever nods to classic musical theater, a self-aware narrator, and a score that playfully mixes styles, Urinetown delivers both big laughs and pointed social commentary.
