PART OF THE MJC MUSIC LIVES! RECITAL SERIES

Grammy-winning trombonist Jamie Dubberly formed Orquesta Dharma in 2008 as a studio project to record some original Afro-Cuban jazz material he had written and arranged. Since then the group has released two highly successful albums, and has performed live to enthusiastic audiences all over Northern California, including the Gallo Center in 2012. The group’s debut album “Road Warrior” (2011), won the Latin Jazz Corner’s “next generation album of the year,” and appeared in Latin Beat Magazine’s top 10 albums of the year. Their current release, “La Clave del Gumbo” (2014), is a fusion of New Orleans style brass band and soul music, Afro-Cuban jazz and salsa. Orquesta Dharma’s lineup includes a veritable “who’s who” of the Bay Area jazz and Latin scenes.

The MJC Music Lives! Recital Series is the ongoing, highly successful collaboration between the music department of Modesto Junior College and the Gallo Center.  The series is dedicated to presenting established art music performers from around the world at affordable prices. Committed to perpetuating the long-standing tradition of diverse music that we enjoy in the Central Valley, Music Lives! supports the Gallo Center as a platform for the performing arts and leader in arts education. Celebrate art music!
