SUSAN MARIE FRONTCZAK AS ERMA BOMBECK

Erma Bombeck turned the average American housewife into an American Legend by exposing the everyday struggles of a homemaking career. In this Living History performance, Erma busts the taboo against admitting to the frustrations and fatigue of being a wife and mother. Find out how Erma got started as a humorist. And chuckle along as she pokes fun at kids, pets, husbands, household appliances, and especially herself in her absurd attempt to be everything the books, magazines, and advertisements say we are supposed to be. Includes a Q&A in character with Erma Bombeck, and a Q&A with the presenter, Susan Marie Frontczak.

Susan Marie Frontczak is a consummate presenter of Living History. The seemingly familiar tone of her delivery belies the depth of her underlying research. Beyond the prepared monologue, she deftly handles audience questions while still in character. This is Susan Marie’s fifth appearance at the Gallo Center. To date she has brought to life on the Foster Family Theater stage the lives of Marie Curie, Clara Barton, and Eleanor Roosevelt (two programs set respectively in the Great Depression and World War II). Her six “ladies” have taken her to 42 of the United States and abroad in her eighteen years as a Living History scholar/presenter.
