CARMEN

CARMEN

Opera Modesto, formerly Townsend Opera - Carmen

Bizet’s Carmen has been called one of the greatest operas of all time, and it’s easy to understand why. This opera has everything—spectacular staging, passionate characterizations, emotion-laden performances, lush orchestrations, and memorable melodies. Even if you don’t know the opera, you’ll recognize the tunes, as well as the emotions, and leave the theater with a lump in your throat and a song in your heart. This production includes local performers you know and love as well as singers who are known nationally and internationally.

RYAN STEVENSON
GCA FY19
RYAN STEVENSON

The music of contemporary Christian artist Ryan Stevenson blends influences from soul, pop, and some of the great guitarists to create engaging acoustic guitar-driven melodies. Embracing the idea that some of the most profound moments of worship emerge not from mountain-top experiences but from difficult, perhaps even catastrophic circumstance gives Ryan’s lyrics a poetic vulnerability. This emerging young singer/guitarist writes with a musical maturity beyond his years and a spiritual sensitivity that easily draws people into the musical message. Five of his songs have charted on Billboard: Holding Nothing Back, The Human Side, Not Forgotten, All Yours and Eye of the Storm. Join us as Ryan and his band make their Gallo Center debut!

Modesto Symphony Chorus – Dr. Daniel R. Afonso, Jr., chorus director

STRAVINKSY Rite of Spring & FAURÉ Requiem
Stravinsky • Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring)
Fauré • Requiem

Over 100 years after the tumultuous premiere, The Rite of Spring continues to thrill audiences with the unmistakable rhythmic complexities and musical colors of Stravinsky. If The Rite of Spring is thought of as angular and primal, the Fauré Requiem is just the opposite. Fauré’s setting for the Requiem strays from the expected with a peaceful and serene atmosphere that will feature the full force of the MSO Chorus.
